THE HIGH STREET

Course name:

Studio 2

Lectures:

Arch. Aliel Kaye, Arch. Stav Dror

Date

2018

As a construction site, the street is constantly changed. There's not a day the street looks the same as the day before. Every day you can see how the traffic of the pedestrians changes, and how the space itself is designed differently, because of the construction operations and the things that the construction site brings with it – digging pits, creating narrow pavements for passage, safety railings placed in the middle of the road, tools and large vehicles that change the walking path on the street.

While staying on the street, I examined the behaviour of people - pedestrians alongside traders and workers. Therefore, later in the process, I decided to design an upper, overhead street for the existing one, which will be built at the beginning of the renovation period and will be dismantled at the end of the period, and will be used for this limited time, and not beyond. A street that will serve the pedestrians for different needs and will be another alternative for anyone who wants to. Using the street, it will be possible to observe the activity of the workers working below, the possibility of creating an interaction that can also be through glances with those living on the street through balconies, the possibility of a new walking path that was not previously possible and the ability to view the street in a different way. Through the models I conveyed the "user experience" – what does the pedestrian see when he is on the high street? And what new opportunities are open up to him?
